The textbook definition of “Immediate Family,” is “A person’s parents, siblings, spouse and children.” For the Band ,”The Immediate Family,” which consists of Danny 'Kootch' Kortchmar Guitar/Vocal, Leland Sklar Bass, Russ Kunkel on Drums, Waddy Wachtel Guitar/Vocal and Steve Postell Guitar/Vocals, the term is more about the moment of clarity and instants commonality that materialized when they first played together and it “Immediately felt as they where a family.” The new Documentary created by Denny Tedesco who brought us The Wrecking Crew film,  follows the work and lives of legendary 1970s session musicians who were featured on some of the most iconic recordings of the era. Their hundreds of album and tour credits include work with James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, Phil Collins, and Kieth Richards. The story is told through one on one and  group interviews with the band and the superstars they backed up along with a treasure trove of archival material.  As each song is revealed to have been a product of their endeavors you are filled with a sense of nostalgia and awe  at the breadth and depth of this body of work. The players each tell the story of their musical upbringing with color and charm, and all allude to that common thread of seeing The Beatles on TV and setting the course to become Rock N Roll musicians. For real music geeks each player recreates the part he played on one of the iconic songs from their discography as a pull back the curtain moment. The Immediate Family began touring and recording original material as a “New Band,” in 2020  after inviting guitarist Steve Postell to join the quartet. The film bring these unsung heroes into the limelight and offers us a glimpse at the unique chemistry and mental connection they share, so there is no need for a lot of discussions. "When you play together for this long," Kortchmar reveals, "things just fall into place very quickly and easily; we understand each other and understand what each other is going to do." One important communicator, however, is the song itself. "Each song tells us what it needs," Wachtel adds. If it sounds like their careers would make a good movie, you're not wrong.
