Justin Saladino Band

Live

(Disques BROS Records)

Montreal guitar man Justin Saladino made a smart move by releasing his third album simply titled Live, in the spring of 2020. The young gun seeking to carve out a niche in the guitar driven contemporary blues and rock market knows that to get the attention of those fans, you can’t hide behind studio trickery. Recorded over two nights at Québec’s largest recording facility, piccolo studios , the 11 new tracks show off the skills of this tight young six piece band who represent the future of the genre.

Set opens with easy R&B groovers “ Take What You Need,” and “Honey,” from the groups 2nd album A Fools Heart. Drummer Denis Paquin then gets  busy with the funk on  “Bad Habit,” which also features some greasy Hammond B3 playing from David Osei-Afrifa. The albums loan cover is a sweet reading of Tom Petty staple “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” a track that  is sure to receive radio attention because of Saladino‘s fine slide guitar work that feels like Duane Allman sitting in with the Heartbreakers. He rips on an extended solo during Southern rock fueled anthem “Put The Hammer Down,” and milks all emotion out of the slow blues “Peace With You.“ The whole band gets loud on the Zeppelin meets Hendrix mashup“ purple girl,“ And the rapid-fire Fred work on“ Irish bordello, and quotes should prove that Saladino Deserves consideration among the rising guitar gods. Saladino’s talent as a singer songwriter, guitarist and bandleader  that have garnered him several awards and the chance to compete at the 2019 international blues challenge are on display on a fine recording.

JSB LIVE was recorded over two nights in front of an audience of loyal fans at Quebec's largest recording facility - Piccolo Studios. "6 musicians, 2 shows and 11 songs....I'm proud of that," says Justin fondly of the group’s new contemporary blues/rock/soul release. The album is a true live-music-experience and fan acknowledgment of the recurring desire for a live album. With the addition of a really electric take on Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How It Feels" to the array of colourful compositions, JSB delivers a powerful setlist of the band's history to date.
